Flute & Harp Duo: Bülent Evcil & Merve Kocabeyler

Bülent Evcil began his flute education at the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory in 1980. Winning the second prize in the “4th Sir James Galway Flute Seminar Best Performer Competition” held in Dublin granted him the opportunity to become a student of the Irish flute virtuoso Sir James Galway. Sir Galway described him as “one of the best flutists of his generation” and facilitated his participation in many concerts. In 1998, he started working as a flute artist at the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet. Since 1999, he has also been the flute section leader of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2004, he has been serving as the principal flutist in the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra. He is also a flute instructor in the master’s program of the Music Advanced Research Department at Istanbul Technical University.

Since 2004, he has been serving as the principal flutist in the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra. Merve Kocabeyler started her harp studies at the age of eleven with Yonca Özkan Bilenoğlu. The artist, who gave her first orchestra concert at the age of seventeen with the Istanbul University Symphony Orchestra, performing Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto, has since performed as a soloist with orchestras in Turkey, and in Canada. She regularly gives solo concerts in Salzburg and is part of the harp section at the La Scala Opera Academy Orchestra in Milan.
