The second English language film by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos after The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer invites audiences to yet another uncanny, playful and meticulously crafted Lanthimos universe. The film revolves around a successful surgeon and an adolescent who tries to fill the gap left behind by his father with him. When the strange duo meet one another’s families, things get even stranger, and a kind of witty Twilight Zone story emerges. Lanthimos once again applies a liberal dose of humor born out of bodily violence. Dealing with family, guilt and class, the film is a cold shower that will haunt audiences for a long time.
