Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, TangoNEVA consists of six women members of the country’s leading symphony and philharmonic orchestras. The ensemble is accompanied by actor and singer Ali Pınar, renowned for his roles in TV series and films, with his cabaret-style narration. On the bandoneon is Argentinean master Brian Caballero, and the performance also features Turkish champion dancers Eşref Tekinalp and Vanessa Gauch. The repertoire of the concert, titled “All Tangos of the World”, lies at the intersection of classical music and tango, featuring a diverse selection ranging from the works of Carlos Gardel, the king of 1930s classical tango, to the tango of Charlie Chaplin; from a composition by contemporary composer Shostakovich, to a tango by Turgay Erdener, composer of the Uğur Mumcu Cantata and Afife Ballet, which he composed for the poet Lorca, who loved to dance to tango… Arrangements are of essential importance in tango, and the arrangements of this uniquely diverse concert were made by Yusuf Yalçın. Film scenes, photographs and narration help the audience relate to the works performed. In short, the ensemble takes the audience on a journey from the 1930s, when tango reached its peak, to the present, with history, stories and gossip…
