SALICAZ! – Melis Sökmen

Melis Sökmen was born in Ankara. She spent her childhood in Germany, and graduated from the İstanbul Austrian High School, and the İstanbul University Department of Foreign Languages Education. She worked at the Bale Art Center as a dance trainer and professional dancer. She played roles in “Ne Güzel Şey”, “Zülfiye Zülfü”, “Muzır Müzikal” and the Broadway musical “Avenue Q”. She was invited for the auditions for “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” in Broadway, an Arif Mardin production. She continues to teach “Stage Performance” in various workshops, as well as working as a voice actor and performing for jingles. Sökmen has participated in and won awards at many festivals, events and competitions in Türkiye and around the world. She was featured as a backing vocalists in many music albums. She took stage with such acts and artists as Billy Cobham, Billy Paul, Tony Jones, Michael Brown, Lloyd Chisholm, Sharon Clark, and the Ari Roland Quartet. In addition to jazz, she sings R&B, Blues, Soul, Latin, Latin Jazz and Pop in several languages.
