Conversations About the Stage: A Conversation with Şebnem Sönmez on the Artist’s Way

A conversation with Şebnem Sönmez, who acts in theater, film and TV, as well as working in the field of art therapy, on her adventure along the Artist’s Way.

Şebnem Sönmez graduated from the İstanbul University State Conservatory Department of Theater. She started her professional theater life with the Dormen Theater, and went on to take the stage at such theaters as the Kenter Theater, BKM, Oyun Atölyesi, Tiyatro Stüdyosu, İstanbul City Theaters and the AYSA Production Theater. Outside theater, she acted in such popular TV series as Bir Demet Tiyatro, Yedi Numara, Elveda Rumeli and Çarpışma, as well as the feature films Vizontele, Aşk Tesadüfleri Sever and Kocan Kadar Konuş, among others.

She is the recipient of various awards in acting, including two Afife Theater Awards.

In addition to her acting persona, Dönmez is also renowned as a director and trainer. “Kadife Çiçekleri”, her last play as a director, which she directed at the Antalya City Theaters, went on to win several awards.

Dönmez gives training on acting, creativity, art and communication, and speaks at corporate events.

She launched Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way” workshop through an online platform for the first time in Türkiye. The training program still continues.

Dönmez also continues her own training program of expressionist art therapy.
