German artist Julian Rosefeldt’s highly successful video art installation from last year is now a feature film. Cate Blanchett plays 13 characters where she reads out loud various manifestos–from the Communist Manifesto to Dogme 95–that have influenced the history of art. Manifesto is an enjoyable spectacle contrived with imaginative mise-en-scène and smart editing and makes for a new highlight in Blanchett’s career. It’s an unforgettable experience in itself to watch the actress play 13 different characters from a homeless man to a puppeteer, from a news anchor to a factory a worker.
