Visual Story Telling: Diversity in Middle East @OIP&SGKM

  • JANUARY 08 WEDNESDAY
  • 18:30
  • MAVA Stüdyo
*This event will be held in English.

The workshop aims to introduce creative practices from film to contemporary art and present a variety of tools and perspectives to the participants to approach art works from neighboring geographies. What is the Middle East and what are the narratives and identities taken for granted in its construction and perception? What are the effects of such associated identities and narratives on artists and their creative processes? We will visit a variety of localities and contexts to observe and discuss the artists’, collectives’ and art institutions’ responses and practices around production of memory and history-writing, politics of representation and visibility as well as questions around participation and agency in the production and dissemination of art works.

This workshop, supported by OIP, will be moderated by Sevgi Ortaç from the Media and Visual Arts Department and Murat Ergin from the Sociology Department.
