Genco Erkal presents his take on 20th century literature, bringing Nazım Hikmet, a cornerstone of Turkish poetry, together with German poet Bertolt Brecht, among the founders of dialectic theater. The conversation between the two poets is set to a musical treatment, accompanied by the works of such great composers as Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler, Zülfü Livaneli, Fazıl Say, Timur Selçuk, Cem Karaca and Edip Akbayram, inviting the audience to a verbal and musical feast. In a humorous and challenging performance that nurtures the human intelligence, Tülay Günal and Genco Erkal discuss the state of the world, oppression, tyranny, justice, war, peace, captivity, the longing for one’s homeland – in short, all that concerns life – giving voice to the longing for a fairer and more participatory world. Adapted and directed by Genco Erkal, the play is accompanied by Yiğit Özatalay on piano, Deniz Doğangün on cello and Çağdaş Engin on clarinet and saxophone.
