DEEP LISTENING EXPERIENCES: SONIC EXPLORATION THROUGH MINDFULNESS

  • SGKM Auditorium / On Stage
  • 19:30

Nilüfer Ormanlı, Cenk Güçbilmez

The Deep Listening Experiences / Reflections event series welcomes everyone who would like to thoroughly deepen their relationship with sound and explore new sonic dimensions. Designed to let participants explore the contrast between the involuntary nature of hearing and the voluntary, selective nature of listening, the events focus on interactive sensual and cognitive processes.

In the words of composer Pauline Oliveros, Deep Listening presents us with an insight towards “Listening to all that is audible, through all possible means, no matter what you do”.

The first event of the series is:

Sonic Exploration Through Mindfulness  / Nilüfer Ormanlı / 1h 15min

What kind of vibrations do you have, spoken or unspoken? We are exposed to sounds every day of our lives, producing and hearing sounds. We are in a close relationship with sound—close enough that it constantly affects our heart, circulatory system, breathing and nervous system. We make many kinds of sounds to communicate with the outside world every day. In this interactive performance, we will be focusing on listening to our own voices through mindfulness. Together, we will listen to the sounds of everyday life, nature, our inner voice, our imagination and our dreams. We will look more closely at such concepts as the acoustic perception, tempo, pitch and amplitude of sound, in an effort to investigate the ways it affects us.

The process consists of breathing exercises, acoustic and electronic performances, light body exercises, sound and rhythm circles, and a reflective question and answer session.
